How this is worked out
The formula
score = element points (18 / 32 / 40) + life-path points (14 / 22 / 30) + birthday rhythm (15–30) life-path number = digits of YYYYMMDD summed and reduced to one digit (11 and 22 kept) birthday rhythm = 15 + 15 × |cos(2π × days apart in the year ÷ 365.25)|

About this calculator
This is a game. Enter two birth dates and it returns a "compatibility" percentage built from three bits of folklore — Western zodiac elements, numerology life-path numbers, and how the two birthdays sit in the calendar. Every point is shown in the steps so you can see exactly why the number is what it is. None of it predicts anything about a relationship; it's for birthday cards, group chats and settling nothing.
How the score is built
- Zodiac elements (up to 40 points). Each sign belongs to Fire, Earth, Air or Water. Same element scores highest; the traditional "friendly" pairs (Fire–Air, Earth–Water) score next; the rest get a consolation score, which astrology writers politely call a growth pairing.
- Life-path numbers (up to 30 points). Numerology's core number: add up every digit of the full birth date and keep reducing until one digit remains (11 and 22 are kept as "master numbers"). Same number scores highest, then both-odd or both-even, then mixed.
- Birthday rhythm (up to 30 points). How far apart the two birthdays are in the year, scored on a cosine so that birthdays on the same day or exactly opposite each other both score well — astrology is fond of conjunctions and oppositions, and we're fond of symmetric formulas.
The three add to at most 100. The same two dates always give the same result, in either order.
What the extra outputs are
Both signs with their elements, both life-path numbers (numerology fans can look up the meanings), and the age gap between the two dates — the only number on this page that means anything.
Why we don't use names
The classic playground "love calculator" counts shared letters in two names. Birth dates make for a more elaborate ritual and let us show zodiac signs, but the scientific content is identical: zero. Controlled studies have found no association between astrological sign and personality or relationship outcomes, and numerology has never been shown to predict anything.
What actually predicts compatibility
Decades of relationship research point at mundane things: similar values and goals, how couples handle conflict (contempt is the strongest predictor of breakup), responsiveness to each other's bids for attention, and shared humour. None of those fit in a date field. Enjoy the percentage, then go talk to each other.
Frequently asked questions
▸Is the love calculator accurate?
No. It's a transparent, deterministic game built on zodiac elements and numerology, neither of which has any demonstrated predictive power for relationships. The steps show exactly where every point comes from.
▸Why do I get the same result every time?
Because the formula is deterministic — the same two dates always produce the same score, in either order. There's no random element, unlike many novelty love calculators.
▸What is a life-path number?
Numerology's main number for a person: add every digit of the birth date (year, month, day) and keep reducing the sum until you have a single digit, keeping 11 and 22 as 'master numbers'. 14 March 1992 → 1+9+9+2+0+3+1+4 = 29 → 11.
▸Which zodiac signs are most compatible?
Traditional astrology pairs signs of the same element (Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius; Earth: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn; Air: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius; Water: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) and the complementary pairs Fire–Air and Earth–Water. Research finds no real effect.
▸Can the score reach 100%?
Yes: same element, same life-path number and birthdays on the same day (or exactly six months apart) score 40 + 30 + 30 = 100.
