The College Board does not publish the raw-score-to-AP-score conversion for AP Chem, or for any other subject, so this page does not print a predicted 1–5. It gives you the composite the College Board actually builds — your points, weighted exactly as it weights them — and what every AP Chem student scored last year.

Assumptions
- The College Board publishes no raw-score-to-AP-score conversion for any subject, so no predicted 1–5 is shown. Checked against the Course and Exam Descriptions, AP Central and the official AP Score Scale Table.
- Section weights and multiple-choice counts are each subject's published exam format for the next administration; free-response maximums were counted question by question from the 2025 Scoring Guidelines.
- AP Statistics' free-response maximum of 40 comes from its own exam page ("four 10-point question types"), because its free-response section was rebuilt after the 2025 rubric.
- AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics publish weights of 66% and 33%, which are thirds rounded to whole numbers; they are normalised so a perfect paper scores 100.
- The AP History short-answer maximum is 9, not 12: the paper prints four questions but every student answers three.
- Score distributions are the published 2026 results and describe that year's cohort, not the conversion.
- Subjects scored partly by portfolio or performance task (Computer Science Principles, Seminar, Research, Art & Design) and the world-language exams are not modelled, because the student cannot mark those parts themselves.

How the AP Chem exam is weighted
Sections are weighted, not added up, so a raw point is worth different amounts depending on where you earned it. This is the whole reason a “points out of 106” figure is misleading on an AP exam.

▸What composite do I need for a 5 on AP Chem?
Nobody outside the College Board knows, and that includes every site that prints a number. The conversion is re-set for each year's exam by a standard-setting process, and the College Board publishes neither the process's output nor any past table. What is published is the outcome: 15% of AP Chem students scored a 5 in 2026.
▸How is the AP Chem composite calculated?
Each section is scored out of its own maximum, converted to a fraction, and weighted: multiple choice 50%, free response 50%. This page does that arithmetic with the College Board's own published weights and shows each section's contribution separately.
▸Is the AP Chem exam curved?
No. The College Board states the exams are criterion-referenced rather than norm-referenced: every student who meets the criteria for a given score receives it, however many students that is. What moves between years is the difficulty of the paper, which is why the point threshold moves with it.
▸How many multiple-choice questions are on the AP Chem exam?
60, worth 50% of the exam score. The free-response section is worth the remaining 50% and is marked out of 46 raw points.
▸Does a raw point on one section count the same as on another?
Not usually. Here 60 multiple-choice questions carry 50% while 46 free-response points carry 50%, so one free-response point is worth about 1.3× a multiple-choice question.
